When the Queen came to town

After has been a nightmare week with my car, it went into the garage on Tuesday to have a problem with the boots fixed and is still there, I managed to do some scrapping this morning to cheer me up. This weeks challenge on UKS asked us to use the colours of our flag, to use a banner and to use more than one photo. When I thought of red, white & blue I immediately thought of last summer with the jubilee and the Olympics and knew which photos I wanted scrap. So I printed them off and made this layout

The photos were taken last summer when the Queen visited Stamford as part of her Jubilee tour. I'm not a Royalist but you couldn't help but get caught up with the excitement buzzing around the town that day. Someone people reserved their spots near the barriers in the morning ready, shops including ours closed for an hour or so so we could see her, school children filed down with their schools to catch a glimpse, it was amazing and over in a matter of seconds as she drove past waving! Typically I was on the wrong side of the road so I only got a photo of her arm and her lady in waiting but never mind.

I used a sheet of Papermania Portobello Road paper and various different scraps to make up the red & blue, the white was made up from a white card stock background and doilies. I tried to make a rosette type embellishment to add in some banners as well as the larger banner to put the title on.

For my alphas I used (in order) Pebbles, American Crafts Nutmeg thickers, Echo Park, and finally Lilybee Designs for the date.

Happy birthday Ian!

Today is the Man's birthday, so I quickly made him a birthday card on Saturday while he was still in bed.

I'm not a fan of making male cards but thanks to Pinterest this came together quite quickly. The papers are a mix MME ranges including Nostalgia which I loved, & Kesi Art. I was chuffed when I found the last scrap of Kesi Art paper with the bikes on as it is perfect for Ian. The stars are cut using Primitive Stars die from Sizzix. The ribbon was a scrap of ribbon from Christmas wrapping, what can I say I'm a crafter lol!

Yesterday we went to Silverstone to watch a six hour endurance race for Ian's pressie, I'll post pics in a separate post, and later we're going to the cinema to watch the new Tom Cruise film.

Welsh Wild Cats

Monday saw the beginning of another month which also meant Sketchy Scrappers reveal time. March's sketch was chosen by the lovely Lisa who chose this Page Maps sketch

This is the layout I came up with using photos taken during our holiday to Wales last year. The stone lion was in the gardens of Port Meirion while the ginger fellow was touring the grounds of Harlech castle. Even though the photos were taken at different locations on different days I thought they would make a fun subject.

I went for a muted, neutral colour scheme to match the earthy tones of the photos. The papers are MME, the green strip at the bottom Studio Calico Fabrip. I had planned on punching the Fabrip and using it along the top, but even though it said it could be punched on the packaging I struggled and ended up getting it stuck in the punch so gave up on that idea lol! Luckily while I was doing the layout one Saturday a star punch I'd brought from a seller on Crafty Sellers on FB arrived so I used it straight away on the layout.

Easter Weekend (picture heavy)

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend and didn't over indulge in too much chocolate. No chance of over indulgence here as these were my Easter gifts

A cute bunny card from Ruby & Ava, a choccie lolly from work, a Lindt bunny from Jojo & two Thorntons eggs from mum. Note the lack of egg from Ian, in the seven years we have been together I think I have only had two Easter eggs! To make up for it though he did let me order some Washi Tape from Angel Crafts woohoo! As it was a lovely sunny but fresh day yesterday we decided to go for a walk to make room for chocolate (I made sure Ian shared his with me lol!)

The start of the walk going through Stamford meadows

We then headed up Easton On The Hill which was very muddy after all the bad weather. Luckily I hadn't fallen over in the snow all winter, but Khama kicked in and I slipped over crossing a bank lol!

Then we cut through to Wothorpe, through the woods to the Wothorpe tower ruins
